Topic

The Knowledge Program is a joint project between the Imaging (Radiology)
and Neurological Institutes at CC. The project began in 2007. We built it
from the ground up, both medically and technologically. I will discuss how
the medical aspects are dependant on the technological aspects. We built the
entire system — hardware, software, interfaces, processes and procedures
with our technical and clinical teams. With this program, we are providing
improved patient care, and we are better able to track patient outcomes
(among so many other things).

Software Development/Testing
KEY: meet with current/potential clients to discuss their workflow, processes and procedures very specifically — gather data regarding current processes, ideas for improvement, etc. Work with clients for days learning what each department does (specific tasks/procedures). This is what makes a stellar software solution, as opposed to a software solution.

QA
Assist QA team in creation of testing plans, procedures, documentation, etc. (including choosing system for documentation of bugs, enhancements)

Implementation/Training
Assist implementation team in creation of general processes and procedures, modified for each client as needed. Users had generic user manuals, notated with specifics for their process/procedures.
Implementation team trains users…train the trainer approach. Work with implementation team to create training documents.

Assist support desk staff as needed (troubleshooting, explanation, etc.)

Decisions regarding hardware resale.
We chose to provide hardware requirements, not hardware.

Software Development/Testing
KEY: meet with current/potential clients and discuss their workflow, processes and procedures very specifically — gather data regarding current processes, ideas for improvement, etc.. We talk with internal clients for many weeks to determine what they need and meet weekly to prioritize and re-prioritize as needed.

QA
We are the QA team and we create testing plans, procedures, documentation, etc. (including choosing a system for documentation of bugs, enhancements). We also add our clinical users to our QA team since a developer testing his own code is not a best practice.

Implementation/Training
Created a team to implement the software. We own all of the hardware (tablet and kiosk PCs), so we have a team that deploys and maintains that hardware/software.
Part of that team is also clinical and they work on the training aspect of the implementation (train the trainer).
Assist implementation team while in the field as needed

Support
We are the support team, so we have created some support documentation and chosen a bug fix/enhancement system for documentation.

We supply and maintain all hardware and software.
